Connecting
2 Heathkit weather stations to 1 remote sensor boom
Several individuals have asked me for
a way to connect multiple weather stations to a single remote sensor boom.
The following circuit will isolate the weather stations from each other
while using the same wind speed and wind direction sensors. In each case,
you should always use separate temperature and/or humidity sensors.
The diodes used can be any type of signal
diode capable of isolating a 5 volt signal. I used 1N4148's. You can mix
any combination of ID-4001's or ID-5001's, or even the ID-1890 Digital
"Wind" computer.
The left connections are to the Sensor
Boom, the right top connections are to the "master" weather station, and
the right bottom connections are to the "slave" weather station.
The "master" weather stations provides
the power to the LED's located inside the wind speed/direction modules
and must be powered up for either weather station to work. Do not attempt
to modify the circuit to allow for either weather station to drive the
LED's.
I have tried this circuit with two ID-4001's,
two ID-5001's and a mix of one ID-4001 and one ID-5001. I have not tried
to drive more than two weather stations, but I suspect it may work as well.
